Michael Becker Fine Violins, Ltd. is a family-owned business of Michael and Jean Becker. Starting from a small shop out of the Becker's home, it has expanded to a well-known address for violins, violas, and celli in Chicagoland.
The basis for the shop is the quality and craftsmanship that ensures every instrument leaving the shop has the best sound possible.
This workmanship is accompanied by friendly and knowledgeable service. With a wide selection of instruments in front of you, Michael Becker will be there to advise you on the different features of each instrument.
Michael Becker earned a bachelor's degree from DePaul University in music education. He traveled to Mittenwald, Germany to study violin making at the Geigenbauschule Mittenwald. After completing his studies in Germany, he moved back to the United States to work for Bein & Fushi in Chicago, IL.
Michael Becker then opened his own shop out of his Park Ridge home. He began employing workers as his business expanded. In 1986 he reopened his shop three blocks away at its current location of 28 Third Street, Park Ridge IL.
Michael Becker is a member of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers. He served on the executive board as President, Vice President, Treasurer, and President Emeritus. He is also a member of Entente Internationale des Maitres Luthiers et Archetiers d'Art (International Society of Violin and Bow Makers).
